Well, you either expunge the folder which contains the deleted messages, or empty the Trash, which does the same thing on every folder containing deleted messages, i.e. emptying the Trash is just a shorthand way of visiting each folder and expunging it. Evo has always worked this way, since it's how IMAP is designed to work.
