the old instance has source files with this structure: [Collection] [Mail Composition] [Mail Account] [Mail Transport] the new instance has these source files: [Mail Account] [Mail Composition] [Mail Transport] the old instance "Collection" file had this section: [Authentication] Host= Method=none Port=0 RememberPassword=true User= ProxyUid=system-proxy CredentialName= which looked troublesome, so I tried deleting it and found that the connection error on startup went away, and no new problems have appeared.
