Short version is:
After a first look at the default labels it became clear to me that this
would not be sufficient for all of our needs. Thus  I changed some
labels - first the texts only, then the colours, then the sequence. Then
I added some labels. As a result I noticed that the list-view was as
expected only on the machine on which I did the changes - so no
server-stored thing. Now I was/am in the need to synchronize all
machines so that all list-views at all machines look alike ...

Sure could I walk from machine to machine, doing this with
Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences->Labels, but the project should be
finished during my lifetime ;-) 
As so often I'm looking for the quick (maybe dirty) fix ...
