Hi,
if I read the code properly, then the AutoArchive happens only when the
folder is entered in the UI and when refreshing it during check for new
mails, like when the folder is set for "Always check for new mail in
this folder" in its Properties. This option is not available for all
account types (for example IMAP has it). Other option is to set the
account to check for new messages in all folders. In other cases one
uses Message->Archive menu option.
