Hi,
you can always move the directory away (with evolution closed) and if
anything goes worse than before, then restore it.
While evolution tries to store as much information on the server as
possible, not everything can be stored there, or some servers do not
support it, thus it's safe in a meaning that evolution will download
the folder summaries when needed, but it's not safe when you use things
like Labels, if your server doesn't support storing user flags, or if
you use anything like Follow-up flags on the messages (IMAP speaking).
Those can be lost.
