You would "post" a message to an IMAP folder is done just by moving the message to that folder. Using a IMAP server will certainly work and is a proper solution. I wonder though if William will be able to get an IMAP server (as there seems to be an implicit requisite of using a "dumb" storage folder). Maybe he will be able to solve it by running an IMAP server on localhost and pointing his MUA there.
