I just recompiled evolution with --enable-ldap=yes,afterwards I wasn't
able to run evolution with the error "Could not open evolution shell".
Not sure what the deal is with that.

No, <rootdn/> is legitimate xml. I didn't personally create that stuff,
evolution generated it for me.
