Have you tried to mark personal things as "private" or "confidential"? 
That should make so others can't see the description.  It's a whole lot
easier to have one calendar.

When I absolutely had to have a meeting in a "secondary" calendar
location, I would create a meeting with the other email address as an
participant.  This meant that any changes made would be sent to the
other.  Of course you still have to accept it, but it's pretty easy.
