I dont really get what you're doing?  Just treating imap as an inbox and
then filtering the messages using evolution into local folders?

Or is that what you want to do?  It should more or less work like that
if you just change the destination paths of the filters to folders on
the imap server instead.

Another alternative is to use maildir as your storage format, and share
the mail directly on disk by pointing them both at the maildir tree. 
This also reduces the need for redundant data copying.

It could be valid or it could be a bug, some servers wont let you create
subfolders of INBOX.  Folder creation is terribly messy because its
handled differently at different levels in the application, hence the
pretty meaningless error report.
