It's probably the summary component hanging. I haven't been able to
reproduce this problem on my system or to figure out why it happens only
to some people, but there is a workaround; when starting Evolution, use
this:
evolution-1.3 evolution:/local/Inbox
This will start Evolution in the local Inbox folder instead of the
summary, and thus prevent it from hanging.
