Did a symlink of mail to .mail, could browse my mail now in Evo, but 
accounts and settings are still not saved.

The locale I'm using is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you try running evolution in a terminal, what sort of warnings do you
get?
It sounds like a gconf issue, perhaps it's resorting to an in-memory
database (which wont get saved obviously), but it should pop up a window
with an error about it, i think.
I'm running on rh9, i'll try installing ximians package and see if i get
similar issues.
