My Evo (1.4.3) has been working perfectly for me on my SuSE 8.2 box. Today Red-Carpet recommended an upgrade on some packages (including Evolution) and I accepted it.
After the upgrade I could no longer send mail using SMTP (but sendmail worked OK.) To make a (very) long story short, I downgraded the evolution and libsoup bits to the previous version and it didn't help. Then I found some threads discussing the problem with gethostbyaddr_r so I tried putting the IP address in the hostname field instead of the name. This solved the problem (although it isn't an acceptable long-term solution since this is a notebook I am on the road with all of the time, deal with NAT'd networks, etc...) Once it was working I reinstalled the newer Evo and libsoup bits and it still worked (using the IP address.) This means that one of the other packages I updated today, introduced the bug. Here is what was updated today (in /var/cache/redcarpet/packages): evolution-1.4.4-0.ximian.7.2.i586.rpm gnome-utils2-2.2.3-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm gnome-applets2-2.2.2-0.ximian.7.2.i586.rpm evolution-pilot-1.4.4-0.ximian.7.2.i586.rpm gtkhtml3.0-3.0.8-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm libbonoboui-2.2.2-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm libsoup-1.99.24-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm libgtkhtml3.0_2-3.0.8-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm libgtop2-2.0.2-0.ximian.7.2.i586.rpm libgal2.0_5-1.99.9-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm rug-1.4.4-0.ximian.7.1.i586.rpm gnome-system-monitor-2.0.4-25.ximian.7.5.i586.rpm oaf-0.6.10-199.ximian.7.6.i586.rpm Any ideas on which of these packages did the deed? I found library files in several of them, but I don't know much more than that.
