The problem is that this way does not clean up your folders. Yes you can
do a lot of stuff with that approach, but you can still have chaotic
folders or only inbox...
You need filters to sort your mail, vfolders are only virtually cleaned
up ;)

Filter against address book is really useful as a whitelist for spam and
to recognize newsletter and more automatic mails.
