1.2.x was a Gnome 1.x application, 1.4.x is a Gnome 2.x application, so
it could be that the Gnome 2 environment on Suse is shafted.
Additionally, or alternatively, since the 1.2.x build you used was from
Suse, they might have modified it to work right on their platform,
whereas the more generic Ximian builds have not been treated in that
way.
