I don't know about the crashing, but that sounds as though the calendar
panes need re-sizing as described in many posts here. In the bar
between the Folders pane and the Calendar pane you will see two grab
handles - click and drag the right most one and the calendar view will
appear. If you can't see the tasks pane, then you now need to drag up
the grab handle at the bottom of the right most pane.
