I presume you're having problems with RH 9.0 (or maybe 8?)... there are many known issues with RPM lockups on that platform. Deleting the __db files is the key, but I believe after that you should rebuild the database by running "rpm --rebuilddb" as root. If you're still having problems, I'd try that.
