Maintaining those changes isn't hard and you can do it with a patch,
that you can apply after every upgrade. I do this myself...
If there is really no accelerator for your keyboard layout with only one
key, you can file a RFE in bugzilla. Seems, it was intended to have this
accessible with one key.
