Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately I could not help with this

No need to apologize, Celsun -- I pretty much understood your comments
regarding my posts and did not take it as allegation.
I just got paranoid again and had to re-check my posts. ;-) I really
would hate if others suffer that badly from false advice by me. This can
be even worse, as I am aware of the archives and the great benefit of
mailing lists to spread information to users simply by reading and
following the posts.

Well, if the backup would have been done correctly, you must have an
archive with some contents.
Anyway, trying to reconstruct the exact command is pretty useless, as
this won't change anything now. If that archive is about 40 Bytes small,
this does not seem to contain your data, unfortunately. If it would be
notedly larger you might wanna try checking its contents. [1]
The output you obviously have seen while archiving beats me though. No
idea why this should produce an empty archive...

[1] Well, if you wanna check your backed up archives anyhow, you can
use tools like 'file-roller' or 'mc' to browse it. Treat it like an
directory in mc.
