I was busy installing a fresh gentoo system due to a HD failure:( I went right to the latest gnome and evolution packages, brought my old data and settings back, run evolution-1.5 and voila: there are birthdays in Calendar and task list!! But this did not work on the two machines where I had already older versions installed. Only now, after the fresh install.
