Which distro and what are the exact versions of those packages? For an
RPM based distro, please post the output of 'rpm -qa | grep spell'.

FWIW, you will need gnome-spell1 (note the 1). Some older distros only
ship gnome-spell <1, in that case Ximian provides newer gnome-spell
packages (well, if officially supported by Ximian) available on the FTP
server or via Red Carpet.
