Thats because you didn't backup .gconf, or gconf's file format changed (its done that recently). You will have to investigate a gconf backup dump/restore tool in that case.
The uid's are just unique strings. After they're created they are never re-generated, so the hostname part is irrelevent.
But if you generate new accounts, any data pointing to the old ones wont work (its designed that way on purpose).
