Even checking the box, when click "to" field in a new email messages,
Address Book set to "Global Address List", Category set to "All
Categories", nothing show up in the contacts windows on the lower
portion of the "Select Contacts from Address Book" Window. Even if I
type a last name in the search filed and click FIND!

This was working with v1.4 running under rhel 3.0, but it is not now

Go "Tools -> Settings" Menu and "Autocompletion" section. You can check
the boxes on any source you want to lookup names. Here I've configured
Global Catalog server, so I've checked this box too. Working fine.
