Thanks for this info. Our sys-admin doesn't understand ldap so when I
asked what bind-DN I should use to test GC server, I got a blank stare.

I've fixed my problem with evolution-connector. There is a bug report on
Ximian Bugzilla for this problem (not authenticating to the GC server) and
a patch has been posted. see http://bugs.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=69611

The problem is to do with 'domain\username' changing to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'
on new versions of Exchange.

Recompiling my evolution-connector rpm with the posted patch worked for
me.
