Hi Charles, It works. For newbies like me, I'd like to mention that these Alias' in the /etc/hosts file (your eg. ximian-charles or suse-charles) should then be the host name in the accounts (Tools, Settings, Evolution Account Editor, 'Receiving Mail's and 'Sending Mail's Configuration, Host), instead of the real host name. When the account searches for the Alias Host name (your eg. ximain-charles) the /etc/host supplies the cross reference to the IP.
