Sorry, I didn't explain myself. Somehow settings are not saved, I have closed and restarted and setting is back to "password" and not "apop". Could it be a problem of the graphical interface? how could I save the setting APOP *manually* in a terminal?

except you want the url to be something like:

And you should use gconf-editor rather than editing .gconf/apps/evolution/... directly.
