Well, man pages are not always easy to grok, granted. That's why I
proposed a good book about UNIX/Linux basics. That would have prevented
a lot of the confusion regarding UID and minimal chown/chmod usage...

Anyway, I'm glad it works and you did not need to re-install the whole
OS yet again... ;-)
