I've used evolution and oaf with kernels 2.4.0, 2.4.1, 2.4.2, and 2.4.3
using gnome-1.4 beta (I haven't upgraded to gnome 1.4 stable yet) and I
have never had a problem with oaf that I don't have with 2.2.x kernels
and even then it never causes evolution to take longer then a second or
two to load up. I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say
that it is acting "weirdly"?
