Duane, I don't know if this will help you or not, but I had the same problem. In my case, I was missing the libplc4.so file, contained in the libnspr4 library package. If you type "wombat" at the terminal and then get this error:
"wombat: error while loading shared libraries: libplc4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" Then you probably need the package. Type "ldd `which wombat` | grep libplc" to see if libplc4.so is on your system. If not, you need the package. Once I installed it, Evolution came right up.
