I believe the main advantages to maildir are speed. The maildir format is *much* faster than mbox for big mailboxes. I'm thinking of switching over for that reason (I IMAP to my mail-server, a feeble 200Mhz machine, and it is slow answering STATUS requests). > Specifically in approaching this conversion, I am using mbox files in > my ~/Mail/ and lots of Procmail recipies doing their job quite well. > I don't know what the best tool would be to convert mbox messages to > maildir format messages. I'd love a good answer to that question. It's the major reason I haven't already switched. My brief look around discovered a few hacked-together tools, but nothing which filled me with confidence.
