RH72 and the SB Live! are the common denominators. You definitely are not alone in this. My father also thought it might have something to do with the USB trackball he has, because it seemed to him that he was always moving the track ball at the time of the lockups. (This has since proven not to be the case however..)
Someone postulated on the Galeon list that the SB Live! card draws a lot of power away from the motherboard chip set, thus destabilizing the entire system. This may be true ( I haven't been in there with circuit diagnostic tools..) , but something to do with the sound drivers shipped with RH 7.2 exacerbate the problem (if indeed that is the case.) RH 7.0 works OK, as does Windows for him. So the solution of ripping out the sound card entirely seems like overkill. I am going to install the latest stable kernel tonight on his computer to see if that makes a difference. I'll let everyone who has said they are experiencing this problem know if that is a working fix.
