If you force using --nodeps then it appears that you used rpm to install. Do not know for sure that rpm works. Yast1 does work and calls up SuSEconfig. I would recommend quitting evolution, killev etc., removing all the spell packages and then install pspell, aspell and gnomespell in the sequence and manner that I had described earlier. Restart X, and set html viewer -> miscellaneous to "en". This exact method is what I found that works. aspell-en-gb does not work.
