While this is all quite true (and one of the main reasons I use IMAP instead of POP3), Netscape has implemented this using what they call 'compacting' folders. If anyone has used the Netscape Messenger using POP3, they will notice (if they pay any attention whatsoever) that messages are not actually DELETED (even from the local store) until you issue a 'compact folders' command. You will not SEE them, but your local (or remote) message store will get HUGE unless you periodically compact the folder.
