I have a fresh install of SuSE 8.0. This version of SuSE came with version 1.0.2 of Evolution. Like other people have experienced, my spell checking wasn't enabled "out of the box". Searching through the archives, a suggested fix is to install the gnome-spell package. I haven't been able to find this package for my distro. www.rpmfind.net doesn't seem to come up with anything for SuSE 8. Nor does Ximian have SuSE 8 support.
