you can tell it only to check inbox i think.

you can submit a bug report to bugzilla.ximian.com i guess, if its not
there already (not that i've seen but there's such a huge list that
isn't surprising).

i might suggest you dont really need to check mail every few minutes
either.  both the server and network load this produces is antisocial.
