For 1.0.x versions, you have to set these options in the GNOME Control
Centre under the HTML Viewer section.

It depends on what the problem was... you might have run into a deadlock
situation or you may have encountered a bug where Evolution was sending
command-lines that were too long to the server (this is fixed in 1.1.x)
or it could be something else. It's really hard to say without knowing
more.
