I had this very same problem in evo 1.2.0 with courier imap. 
I was sending a mail to a user in a ldap addressbook. Accidentally I put
a space in front of the name and so the name did not get resolved to a
real address.
Because of that all the mails I tried to send later were waiting for
delivery in the outbox.
When I deleted the very first email+ restarted evo it all worked fine
again.

Anyway this was quite confusing.
