* * *COBOL Mainframe Developer * *Location: Raleigh NC * *Duration: 12 months, or longer* *Due Date: 7/20* Description: The person in this position will assist permanent staff in the development and support of mainframe programs for the Unemployment Insurance Benefit Payment System. Programs must be thoroughly tested and accurate. Code must be concise, efficient and easily maintainable and conform to State and ESC IS Divisional standards. The individual will be required to develop a thorough knowledge of the application area, work independently with users in defining system requirements and solutions to service requests, efficiently troubleshoot program bugs and to assist in recovery procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: - The individual must have knowledge of, and have a minimum of three years experience in business application development including extensive hands-on experience with, COBOL, JCL, CICS and VSAM. - Experience related to the development of complex applications is required. - The individual must know how to create JCL and write COBOL Batch and CICS programs that access VSAM files. - The individual will need to conduct analysis for new application development and on existing systems that may require significant changes. - The individual should have experience working with large datasets across multiple platforms and be able to demonstrate the capability to determine the best implementation for enhancements to legacy systems. - In additional, the individual must possess proven communications skills, both written and verbal, the ability to take direction as well as the ability to work independently or as part of a team on assigned tasks. *Preferences:* - Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated experience in IBM¡¦s MQ Series Middleware (CICS and batch application use of), Endevor Source Management Application, Systemware print/output application, and Mainframe batch FTP processes. Experience with a Guide Unemployment Insurance Benefit Payment System will be a plus.
