Location: Los Angeles, CA Duration: 6+ months Rate: Open Position Description: This engagement requires a highly skilled Java Developer who will be interacting daily with the System Administrator and members of the Production Support team, Business Analysts, and other functional experts, as well as end users, to comprehend requirements and ensure all aspects of the project are delivered as planned. The developer will primarily assist with support the homegrown application. Application is a web-based student information system. The ideal candidate must thrive on working in a fast-paced environment and be able to effectively understand and implement reporting solutions and support data analysis functions using Oracle 11g, MS SQL Server, Java (J2EE), TOAD, and defect tracking systems (JIRA, TFS, etc.). Responsibilities: . Provide support to Production Support team members in gathering and/or clarifying data . Develop, Deploy and/or maintain the application in accordance with requirements using Oracle 11g, MS SQL Server, Java (J2EE), TOAD, and defect tracking systems. . Develop and maintain database stored procedures, views and/or functions . Develop SQL queries and support ad hoc requests for data . Identify and troubleshoot business process or data quality issues that show up in the reports and subsequently communicate to resolve and eliminate problems . Support interfaces with existing legacy student information systems, develop and implement fix-it data scripts, and reporting tools (Pentaho and Inetsoft). . Transfer knowledge to client Personnel. Requirements: . Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Engineering or other similar concentration . 5+ years' experience in Java development within the context of a service-oriented architecture or other similar technical experience . Ability to troubleshoot software development and runtime issues Skills: . Software management/development (Java, XML preferred) . Excellent problem-solving/troubleshooting skills, fast learner . Ability to self-manage your own projects . Excellent written and oral communication skills . Experience with Python, SOAP web services, Oracle DB, Unix/Linux a plus .
