I'm hoping this is not going to be a "language" issue.... The term "Conditional Formatting" has a very specific meaning to Excel.
"Conditional Formatting" is used to define "rules" and change the formatting of the cell based on these "rules". (Like, values between 5 and 10, or only cells with duplicate values, or ??) It is NOT the same thing as choosing a cell, right click and select "Format Cells". Using "Format Cells": In the "Number" tab, select format "Number". Here it allows you to specify how to display negative numbers (with a leading "-", enclosed in (), or RED). So.. semantically, you are using "Format Cells" to define a specific "format" to use when the values meet a certain "condition", but this is NOT the same as using "Conditional Formatting". Conditional Formatting can also do this, and it is actually more versatile in that you can have it change to any color you wish, and change the font also. hth, Paul ________________________________ From: Ramesh Katta <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, June 11, 2009 10:42:41 AM Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ how to apply color to range without using conditional formatting Dear member, I have a question which was asked in interview. The question is how to apply color to range with using conditional formatting. For example i have range suppose a1:a20 containing negative and positive values. I need all negative numbers in red color and positive numbers in green color. (Without using conditional format). I attached a file for your reference.
