First of all, what version of Excel are you using? Second, are you looking for an Excel Function solution or a VBA solution?
Third: I seem to vaguely remember PHP and regex, but your syntax doesn't ring a bell. I can't tell if you're matching a single character, or a string. so, perhaps you can describe your text string better. Is it delimited? Is this something you want to do once? or every day for the rest of... the week/month/year/forseeable future? there's lots of ways to split your string, Which to use depends on if the string is delimited, or if each portion is a fixed length, or... so, please... give us some more to work with...
