Hi,

Assuming there is a space after the first name, look for that space using
search, then subtract 1:

=SEARCH(" ",A1)-1
Change the A1 ref to suit your data.

Regards - Dave.

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ URGENT Request
To: excel-macros@googlegroups.com

Hi Members

I have an excel sheet with huge text data and at the beginning of each cell
text string there are names (mostly single names) I want to count the number of
letters in the first word (that is the name I referred to above). Please tell
some excel function that does this work for me.

Thanks and regards in advance for urgent replies.
