Im betting the resolution is to use a different product.

Hello everyone.  I found this thread on mail-archive.com so I joined this
list to see what resolution was found.  Over the holidays, we upgraded from
Windows NT & Exchange 5.5 to Windows 2003 & Exchange 2003.
We used Norton Antivirus 2.1 on the old Exchange Server, and are now using
Symantec Mail Security 4.01 on the new one.  We downloaded Symantec Mail
Security 4.01 build 456 from Symantec's website about the time this thread
was going on (Dec 20).

However, this build (456) started crashing and letting viruses thru ...
So Symantec told us to install a new build of the same version (458) because
build 456 was buggy.  We did that on Thursday and now the transaction logs
start periodically increasing (6-7 logs per minute) enough to fill the drive
(this brought Exchange to a halt Friday night).
The only way to return the rate of growth to normal is by stopping the
Symantec Mail Security service.  We are working with Symantec support on
this issue, monitoring the Exchange server and working to bring up
Symantec's Antivirus Gateway on a different server to move antivirus
scanning off of Exchange until this is resolved ... However, I was wondering
what the resolution was to this thread.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I think I am getting close to the
issue. I think it may be related to Symantec Mail Security 4.0.1 for
Exchange.
