Hi,

We use ORFilter, which is free (although you should donate a few $ if it
works well for you). http://martijnjongen.com/eng/orfilter/ Works with
E2k and E2k3.

It works amazingly well for us. It finds most spam (>90%) with no false
positives (depending on how you configure it - which servers to use and
of course what type of emails your receive...). It uses DNS-based spam
databases. See the following link for a list.
http://www.declude.com/junkmail/support/ip4r.htm

Of course it isn't a complete anti-spam solution (like the commercial
software), but for us (~50 mailboxes) it works well enough.

I have configured ORFilter to change the subject of suspected spam
email, and then clients can filter it using rules in Outlook (if
desired).

ORFilter + Outlook 2003's spam-filtering finds pretty much all spam I
personally receive (~150 per day).

/ Erik

Isn't MS Hotmail using Brightmail?

BTW, FWIW, we just rolled out GFI MailEssentials two months ago. It's
alright. Catches most of the UCE, with some false positives. Worth a
look.

Subject: Serverside Spam filter

I know I've seen a lot of people going back and forth about good spam
scanners for Exchange and I was hoping you guys could help us out. We
have a small business hosting about 15 mail accounts on our Exch 2k
server. We're most concerned about our own personal accounts because we
receive between 300-400 spam messages daily. We'd like to put some
filter on the server, but cannot afford GFI or Winternals etc as we are
a small company. Does anyone have any low cost, effective, server side
spam removal suggestions?

I am planning to upgrade to Exch03 and I heard that there was some built
in spam filters on that. Would it make a difference just to upgrade?

Thanks all,
Crista
