Oh Heavens Yes You must have the current build to install on Exchange Server 2003. Or bad things will happen. (Think Dan Aykroyd, "crossing the streams...." bad)
A client had a reseller ship them the "current" SAVMSE 4.0 CDROM, (Symantec Mail Security for MS Exchange), which worked fine with the last Release Candidate of Exchange 2003, but hosed the RTM version. Here's proof: Symantec's KB Document ID:2003060308054754 (URL too long) and I quote " SMS for Exchange version 4.0.1, Build 456 and later are compatible with Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 Server. Builds before 456 are not supported on these platforms" (installing the shipped version hosed our server and required a manual uninstall a la safe mode--ouch!) Version client is running on Exchange 2003: 4.0.10.456 Be very careful not to install a previous version. HTH, Marty P.S. The product works fine now, and checks hourly for updates.
