You're lucky you have a single server.

Subject: RE: Changing 5.5 Service Account password

I come before you humbled and ashamed, for I have forgotten my
Exchange 5.5 service account password, and now I need it to install a new
2003 Exchange into the Organization :-(.

My password manager program managed to loose it for me (Curse you,
Big Crocodile! [1]), and I can't quite remember it, and since it's a highly
complex password, the password-cracker utilites are having a tough time
cracking it.

I've found Microsoft's KB article on the proper procedure to
change the service account password

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:
80/support/kb/articles/q157/7/80.asp&NoWebContent=1

As I have a single site/server/everything, it looks pretty
straightforward. Use Admin to change the password, change the password in
Usermanager as well, and then stop and start all the Exchange services so
that they will pick up the new password.

Any other gotchas I need to be looking out for?

        Thanks for any advice

[1] Seriously, don't use the "Big Crocodile" password manager
shareware app. On the surface, it seems to have all the features you would
want to store your network's passwords, but the programmer either doesn't
understand or didn't bother to properly code network awareness into this
app, which leads to a lot of problems with data corruption and lost password
entries.
