I recommend you suck it up and spring for the $249 [1] and call PSS.

Subject: Recipient Update Service doesn't

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been able to find much on the web, the MS KB, or on USENET.
The few articles on MS KB seem to point towards situations other than
mine.
This was a new installation, not an upgrade from anything else.
There are no other servers on the LAN.

Exchange 2003 Enterprise Ed. on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Ed.
Domain Controller, FSMO, Native Mode, less than 100 users, (most forward
to external addresses). Hardware is a single Xeon 2.4 w/ 1 GB RAM and 4
x 36 GB RAID 10. The domain name has a hyphen in it, as in
"ABC-DEF.com", I'm under the impression that's legal, correct me if I'm
wrong. It's also running Symantec Mail Security for Exchange (build
456--the only stable build for Exchange 2003) and NAV Corp Ed. 8.1, set
not to scan all the files and folders it shouldn't be....

Every five minutes, there are several event ID's 8033 like the one
below, followed by one event ID 8259.

Event Type: Information
Event Source: MSExchangeAL
Event Category: Address List Synchronization
Event ID: 8259
Date: 4/9/2004
Time: 5:52:50 PM
User: N/A
Computer: server
Description:
Stopped replication for Address List 'Recipient Update Service
(Enterprise Configuration)'.
For more information, click
http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

The recipient update service isn't updating new accounts with their
email addresses. Restarting the server resolves this for a while, but
then it returns. New accounts don't get their SMTP address even if you
send them a message. Adding the address manually resolves.

Had a previous issue in December, running exchange setup with the
switches /forestprep and /domainprep resolved that one. This RUS
"Invalid DN Syntax"
failure remains.

This has been going on for several months now. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

BTW, would someone please include how to search the Exchange Discussion
archives? Thanks!
