I forgot to follow this up over the weekend but we ended up spending the $245. It seems that even though it says GroupWise version 5.x client it really means only the GroupWise 5.2 client in certain cases. Luck for us that we are one of those special (short bus) cases. It all works now. Apparently there in some location it "clearly" states GroupWise 5.2 client is the only supported client. Oh well.
