You only need the MTA Stack to communicate with the Exchange 5.5 world.

Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 to 2k3 migration - MTA Stacks wont start

We havent tried to create a mailbox on the new server at this point to test
sending and recieving mail as it was assumed the MTA routing stack would be
a fairly vital part of the Exchange product?

The document that was used as a baseline for the migration process was
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812593 which was
followed in order, adding the step of installing the ADC to sync the active
directory after the appropriate tests were run with sucessful results. This
document pretty much follows the same process as the Exchange 2K3
co-existance with 5.5 wizard on the CD.

Thanks again for your time :)
