I need to know the total number of inbound messages that have been sent from the Internet to my perimeter Exchange server, before any type of connection, sender, or recipient filtering is applied.
The closest counter I can find is the SMTP Server\Inbound Connections Total counter. My concern, however, is that wording of this particular counter seems to imply that this would be the total number of successful connections, which means that this number would be the net # of connections *after* connection filtering has been applied. I'm basically trying to use the new filtering counters in E2K3 SP1 to determine how effective my filters are, but obviously I need to know the TOTAL number of messages sent to me in order to formulate what % of messages are getting dropped at each particular filter. Any thoughts?
