Hello All,

I have a question which I hope somebody here will help out. It is not
really an Exchange question but it is an more a DNS question.

The scenario is as follows: (domain name and IP are not actual)

I have an Exchange server with the domain "@xyz.com.my" and IP addr
192.168.10.10. I am setting up another Exchange server in another building
with same domain "xyz.com.my", same users, different IP addr
195.168.10.20.
I would like to know what is the best way to get the ISP to configure the
DNS entries. As the ISP will require some lead time to configure the DNS,
I'm trying to get the entries in place now, prior to the migration (if
possible)
I am thinking of a DNS setting like this...

xyz.com.my MX preference = 10, mailexchanger = server.xyz.com.my
xyz.com.my MX preference = 20, mailexchange = newserver.xyz.com.my (new)

server.xyz.com.my internet address = 192.168.10.10
newserver.xyz.com.my internet address = 195.168.10.20 (new)

The idea of the new DNS entry is so that when we have finally moved all
users to the new server, we can just switch off the old server and slowly
get the old server entry removed from the ISP DNS without losing any new
emails. (all new email will be routed to the new server and clients can
access mail on the new server - no loss of internet email.)

Will this setting work? Any thoughts, advise or alternatives are
appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,
cml
